Thoroughbred Racing:

PREAKNESS-STRONACH GROUP

UNDATED _ The Stronach Group isn’t well known outside of horse racing but has been arguably the most important group in influencing the sport over the past several years. The Canadian-based company helped save Maryland racing and established the richest race in the world but also owns Santa Anita Park that was the site of 23 horse deaths over a span of three months and is in a fight over the future of the Preakness. Because of that, it’s a boon for business and a lightning rod for criticism in racing. By Stephen Wyhno. SENT: 850 words, photos.

MAXIMUM SECURITY-JOCKEY SUSPENDED

LEXINGTON, Ky. _ Jockey Luis Saez was suspended for 15 days for failing to control Maximum Security and causing interference that resulted in the horse’s historic disqualification as the Kentucky Derby winner. The decision by the Kentucky stewards was announced by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. SENT: 350 words, photos.
