Altura man accused of attacking a man with a chisel arrested Saturday
A 55-year-old Altura man accused of breaking into a man’s home and attacking him with a chisel was arrested Saturday.
Jeffery Lee Winegar was charged in Winona County District Court Monday with domestic assault causing fear and harm, second-degree assault and making terrorist threats.
According to the report, Winona County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a 35-year-old man’s residence on Sunset Avenue in Altura after receiving multiple reports of violent behavior shortly after 8 p.m.
Initially, the man reported that Winegar had attempted to punch him, but hadn’t hit him, deputies said.
However, shortly before 8 p.m., Winegar broke into the man’s home, jumped on top of him and held a chisel to his neck, the report said.
According to the report, the man was able to kick himself free and fled outside where he called for help.
A $10,000 conditional or a $30,000 non-conditional bond has been set for Winegar’s release, and he has been ordered not to have any contact with the man. His next court date is July 9.
