California basketball coach arrested on molestation charges

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (AP) — A basketball coach who worked at several Southern California high schools was arrested Thursday on suspicion of molesting at least eight teenage boys he coached.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said Jeremy Haggerty, 34, molested the children while working in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Detectives told the Santa Clarita Valley Signal that all of the incidents took place in one-on-one training sessions, and there is no evidence any occurred on a school grounds.

The Signal reported that Haggerty spent nearly eight years on-and-off as an assistant at Canyon High before he was hired as an assistant coach at West Ranch High during the 2012-13 season. He was named Trinity Classical Academy’s coach in August 2014 and resigned in 2016.

The incidents date back to 2008. Sgt. Brian Hudson told the Signal that there may be other alleged victims.

Haggerty remains jailed. It’s unclear whether he has an attorney.
