BULLHEAD CITY — The Lady T-birds’ defense did little to help the cause of starting pitchers Sammie Welt and Dae’zha Goodloe during their final four games of the 24th annual Dave Kops Tournament of Champions.

Mohave High School’s softball team committed 17 errors during the last four games on Friday and Saturday.

The El Toro Chargers, from Lake Forest, California, scored eight runs in the third inning en route to their four-inning, mercy-rule shortened victory against the T-birds during Mohave’s first game on Friday.

Allyson Brusso doubled and knocked in one run in one at-bat; Goodloe, Lexi Valdez and Tiffany Salahub each singled and scored one run in two at-bats to lead the T-birds’ offense.

Welt gave up nine runs — one earned — on six hits, while striking out seven and walking four in four innings to take the loss.

Mohave committed three errors.

The Tigers for Aztec (New Mexico) High School were beneficiaries of nine T-bird errors during their 31⁄2-inning, mercy-rule shortened win during Mohave’s second game Friday.

The Tigers scored all 10 of their runs in the first inning.

Welt gave up 10 runs — none earned — on nine hits, while striking out two and walking three in three innings to take the loss.

Brusso singled in one at-bat, and Goodloe and Salahub each singled once in two at-bats to lead Mohave’s offense.

The Coronado Cougars, from Henderson, Nevada, tallied all five of their runs in the bottom of the first inning to beat the T-birds during their first game Saturday.

Welt homered, singled, had two RBI and scored one run in three at-bats; Tayor Lujan doubled in three at-bats; and Salahub singled and scored two

runs in three at-bats to lead the T-birds.

Mohave committed just one error in the game — by far the T-birds’ best defensive effort during the final two days of the TOC.

Welt homered, singled, had an RBI and scored one run in three at-bats to lead the T-birds’ offense during their loss to the Flagstaff Eagles during their second game Saturday.

Four T-bird errors did not help Mohave’s cause.

Goodloe gave up three runs — one earned — on four hits, while striking out four, walking two and hitting one batter during her seven-inning, complete-game loss.

Salahub chipped in one single and scored one run in three at-bats for Mohave.

The losses dropped Mohave’s record to 0-8 overall this season.
