September 25, 2018

Point Park announced Thursday the hiring of John Ashaolu as athletic director.

The name might be familiar to WPIAL followers since Ashaolu was the athletic director at Seton La Salle from 2011-14. He also was the girls basketball coach there.

Most recently, he was the athletic director at Community College of Allegheny County. From 2014-18, he served in the same capacity at Community College of Beaver County, where also was an adjunct professor.

Ashaolu played college basketball at New Orleans and NAIA Xavier (La.).

“I am humbled and honored by the opportunity,” said Ashaolu, a native of Toronto and the brother of former Duquesne basketball player Sam Ashaolu. “The university’s continued investment in its athletics program illustrates the importance that athletics plays in the university’s upward trajectory.

John Ashaolu also had sports-related jobs at East Carolina, Duquesne and Trinity Valley Community College.

The Duquesne graduate is pursuing a Doctor of Education degree in Educational Leadership-Higher Education from the American College of Education.

“John will be charged with the responsibility of elevating Point Park athletics on both a regional and national level in all 17 sports that the university offers,” said Keith Paylo, Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Point Park.
