Becker president named to top spot at UMass-Dartmouth
BOSTON (AP) — The president of an in-state private college has been named chancellor of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Robert Johnson, who has been president of Becker College in Worcester since 2010, was named to the UMass-Dartmouth post Tuesday by the UMass system’s trustees.
UMass President Marty Meehan recommended Johnson for the post, calling him “an accomplished, visionary leader with an entrepreneurial spirit and a proven commitment to student success.”
At Becker, he was credited with increasing enrollment, improving student success and elevating the college’s reputation.
Johnson was one of three finalists selected after an executive recruitment firm contacted 165 potential candidates and then interviewed 40 of them. The 16-member search committee interviewed 12.
The university has been led by an interim chancellor since Divina Grossman stepped down in December 2015.
