Couple seeks funds to fix pickup’s timing belt

December 13, 2018 GMT

A 34-year-old woman says she lives in an off-grid home in Rio Arriba County with her spouse and 2-year-old child.

The family depends on a pickup to haul firewood, which is their only heating source, and to haul propane, which is their energy source for hot water and cooking.

However, the pickup needs a new timing belt.

The couple are struggling financially because the woman’s husband’s work hours were cut back substantially.

“We have no money in our bank account and are currently unsure of how we will even pay our rent next month,” she wrote in her application.

They are asking for help getting a new timing belt for the pickup.

The couple are among hundreds of people seeking help from the Empty Stocking Fund this season.
