Rogers goes back to Holly ‘and beyond’
ZUMBROTA — Johnny Rogers enters a time machine and transports us back to the golden early years of rock ‘n’ roll in “Buddy & Beyond,” a tribute concert at 8 p.m. May 13 at the State Theatre, 96 E. Fourth St., Zumbrota.
The show will feature Rogers’ portrayal of Buddy Holly, and music of other early rockers: Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ricky Nelson and Chuck Berry. The show closes with a tribute to the King himself, Elvis.
Rogers is a Chicago native who, through his father’s job as a radio personality, crossed paths with many of the greats of early rock and country music. Rogers has performed in Branson, at the London Palladium, and at the legendary Cavern Club in Liverpool, as well as at the Surf Ballroom, the site of Buddy Holly’s final show. He has also played alongside Tommy Allsup, Holly’s lead guitar player.
Tickets are $24 in advance, $29 at the door, available through crossingsatcarnegie.com, and by phone at 507-732-7616.
