BARCELONA, Spain (AP) _ Michael Schumacher, driving a backup car after his regular ride failed in practice, won the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, his fourth victory in five races this season.

The victory was Schumacher’s 16th in the last 25 races and moved him toward clinching a fifth Formula One season title before the schedule is half over.

Schumacher switched to his backup car after his main car developed hydraulic problems in morning practice. He still dominated the race, starting from the pole position and controlling the competition.

Juan Pablo Montoya of BMW-Williams was second _ 35.6 seconds behind _ followed by McLaren’s David Coulthard, Nick Heidfeld of Sauber, Felipe Massa of Sauber and Heinz-Harald Frentzen of Arrows.

It was Montoya’s third runner-up finish this year, after Australia and Malaysia, and the second time Coulthard has finished third.
