Amazon plans packaging center in suburban Indianapolis
GREENWOOD, Ind. (AP) — Online retail giant Amazon is planning a packaging center in suburban Indianapolis that’s expected to bring about 1,250 jobs to the area in the coming years.
The Daily Journal and the Indianapolis Business Journal reported Tuesday that the site where Seattle-based Amazon signed a lease for in Greenwood is where a FedEx distribution center was planned before that company backed out in March. They say Amazon’s facility could be operational as soon as next year.
Greenwood’s council has approved tax breaks on property taxes for the building and equipment. The company plans to invest $45 million in property improvements and $35 million in equipment.
Ryan Wilson, manager of economic development at Amazon, has described the planned facility as a “receive center” that packages incoming products for shipment to fulfillment centers.
