Longmont Man Accused of Stabbing Wife Formally Charged

A Longmont man accused of stabbing his wife on Jan. 21 was formally charged Wednesday in Boulder County Jail.

Aurelio Desantiago, 51, is charged with attempted first-degree murder, first- and third-degree assault, felony menacing and criminal mischief.

Desantiago is being held in jail on a $100,000 bond. He will appear in Boulder County District Court on Feb. 21 for a preliminary hearing.

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Desantiago’s wife told police they were at home when they got into an argument.

She told police that Desantiago stabbed her and chased her across the street to a neighbor , who was able to take the knife away from Desantiago. Prior to the stabbing, she told police that Desantiago struck her in the face.

The victim was taken to Longmont United Hospital.

Desantiago also was taken to the hospital before he was arrested and taken to jail, as police said they found him with a self-inflicted stab wound.
