Scheduled Roadwork 4/15/19

The state Department of Transportation announced the following upcoming roadwork projects in Luzerne County: Interstate 81 • Baseball is back. There will be traffic issues at Davis Street, Interstate 81 and Montage Mountain Road, Moosic, at the beginning and end of the games. Games today through Wednesday start at 6:35 p.m. • A project that includes ramp and bridge repairs, roadway resurfacing and guiderail work from Exit 184 River Street to Exit 180 Moosic will continue through October 2020. The project will begin today with dirt work for construction at the Moosic Street left exit ramp. The contractor will be doing paving throughout the summer. A lane restriction for short stretches of either the northbound or southbound lands will occur Sundays through Thursdays from April 1 through late August. Luzerne County • The shoulder of state Route 115, Bear Creek Boulevard in Bear Creek Twp. will be closed starting today through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. for drain/pipe flushing. • Crews will shut down a lane on state Route 2036, Bald Mountain Road in Bear Creek Twp. for ditching starting today through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. • There will be a lane closure on state Route 2047, Church Road in Rice Twp. today through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. due to patching. • State Route 92 is closed in Exeter due to a water main break under the road. A detour is in place. Repair work has begun and is scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer. • North Cross Valley Expressway bridge project: The bridge at Exit 6 Luzerne will be replaced. Two lanes will be open northbound and southbound. Completion is set for November 2019. • North Cross Valley Expressway project: The off ramp from state Route 309 South to River Street will be closed through the fall of 2020. During this time, the bridge deck and side walls of the bridge will be removed and replaced. The beams and girders will also be painted. The posted detour will lead motorists to Exit 2 Wilkes-Barre/Center City, to Wilkes-Barre Boulevard, where temporary traffic signals have been installed, to state Route 309 North and back to River Street. A special provision is made for emergency vehicles that will allow them to exit at a newly constructed off-ramp and use the shoulder of the on-ramp from River Street to state Route 309. Emergency responders will be going against the normal flow of traffic, but behind concrete barriers. • State Route 2045, South Main Road, is closed in Wright Twp. due to an emergency bridge repair. The project will include replacing a pipe that has deteriorated underneath and has left the bridge unsafe. The tentative completion date for this project is late September 2019. The detour is Nuangola Road to Church Road and back to South Main Road. • South Valley Parkway project: Work at Middle Road and Prospect Street began in the first week of April. The contractor will perform excavation and swale work. There will be no lane closures with this work. In mid-April, UGI will be relocating telephone poles with temporary lane closures. The Prospect Street roundabout is being re-engineered due to unforeseen conditions. The department did not want to inconvenience the public, so the area was opened up. Once the re-engineering is completed, construction of Prospect Street will resume. The Prospect Street roundabout will be closed again in late spring for completion. • State Route 4024 in Fairmount Twp. is closed through August for a bridge deck repair. A detour is in place. • A bridge on state Route 3034, Butler Avenue in Conyngham has been closed after a routine inspection. The bridge will be replaced starting in the spring of 2020.
