Pakistan’s Shafiq warms up for 1st test with 108no
SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Asad Shafiq hit an aggressive unbeaten century for Pakistan A against Australia on the opening day Wednesday of a four-day match, a tune-up for the first test next week.
Shafiq, who is leading Pakistan A, reached 108 not out off 156 balls, with 13 fours and four sixes in a decent total of 305-8.
Left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe staked his claims for a test debut by claiming 3-76, as he shared the bulk of the overs with offspinner Nathan Lyon, 0-68.
Opening batsman Ahmed Shehzad made an entertaining 55 with seven fours and two sixes before he played on Ben Hilfenhaus shortly after lunch.
Shafiq raised his century by hitting Peter Siddle for two successive boundaries then lofting the fast bowler over long on for a six.
Shafiq featured in two productive partnerships; 87 with Shehzad, and 100 with Haris Sohail (43) for the fifth wicket
