Special elections scheduled to fill 2 state House vacancies

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania voters will fill two vacancies in the state House in special elections scheduled for March 12.

House Speaker Mike Turzai on Wednesday announced the date of the contests for districts in the Scranton area and in Philadelphia.

Rep. Sid Michaels Kavulich of Lackawanna County died in office in October, and Rep. Vanessa Lowery Brown resigned last month after being sentenced on a bribery conviction.

Both of the Democrats ran unopposed and were re-elected in November.

The parties will pick candidates to run in the special elections.
