Joe Machi headlines at Fairfield Comedy Club
Joe Machi sometimes looks as if he’s a kindergartner trying to practice his smile for the class portrait. He’s just got that kind of face that makes you want to pinch his cheeks. And that gets him laughs, before he even opens his mouth.
The Pennsylvania State University graduate, who has performed on “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” was also a finalist on NBC’s “Last Comic Standing.” He will headline two shows Saturday, July 1, at the Fairfield Comedy Club. Also performing will be comedians Marc Gerber, Colin Cook, Frank Murgalo, Joe Gerics and Beecher Taylor.
Machi’s comedy is a combination of his quirky personality and atypical perspectives, according to Taylor, who is also a co-producer of the show, along with Gerics. Taylor said Machi projects a sort of innocent charm that cushions the unexpected twists of his humor.
But Machi wasn’t always a comedian. He started out after college as a customer service manager for a supermarket. Then, after a stint as a human resources assistant, he decided to try stand-up. Machi moved to New York City in 2006, and has been cracking up audiences ever since.
He has performed everywhere from Caroline’s on Broadway to the Boston Comedy Festival. Machi also won first place in the Emerging Comics Contest at the New York Underground Comedy Festival, and was a finalist at the New York Comedy Festival’s N.Y.’s Funniest Person Competition.
