Police: Los Angeles man killed after vandalism confrontation

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police say a man was fatally shot after confronting someone who was vandalizing his property in South Los Angeles in what’s believed to be a gang-related attack.

Los Angeles police Lt. Byron Roberts tells KTLA-TV that officers responded to the shooting in the Hyde Park neighborhood just before lunchtime Monday.

He says officers found the victim on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, who wasn’t identified, was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Roberts says the innocent victim had simply confronted someone who had been vandalizing his property.

A business called Three Brother’s Towing was cordoned off with crime scene tape after the shooting, though it’s unclear whether that was the property Roberts was referencing.

Roberts says detectives were reviewing surveillance footage for a description of the suspect.
