Honduras 2, Guadalajara 0 Mexico City 4, El Salvador 3
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Eric Gallegos scored the game-winning goal as Honduras beat Guadalajara 2-0 Tuesday night in Camel Cup competition.
Gallegos scored 29 minutes into the second half, taking advantage of a fast break to draw goalie Jose Luis Lopez away from the net and kick a point in.
The first goal of the game came 36 minutes into the first half from 20 yards out. Juan Carlos Espinoza maneuvered and kicked the ball to the left side of a diving Lopez, but the goalie was unable to stop the point.
Guadalajara had good ball control, but Honduras’ defensemen were able to keep them from converting.
In an earlier match, Hector Esparza’s successful penalty kick gave Mexico City a 4-3 win over El Salvador.
The teams played to a foul-filled scoreless tie, forcing the penalty kicks. Each team got seven chances to score.
El Salvador’s goalie Carlos Rivera was unable to stop goals by Mexico City’s Rubin Espinoza, Luis Monzon, Mario Ordiales and Esparza.
Mexico City goalie Alberto Guadarrama only allowed El Salvador’s Fernando de Moura, Marlon Menjivar and Raul Toro to score.
Mexico City plays Honduras Thursday for the Camel Cup.
