HHS, SVHS playoff matchup set for Friday
HUNTINGTON — Spring Valley and Huntington High lock up in the Class AAA football quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Wolves Den.
Second-rated Spring Valley (11-0) massacred No. 15 Spring Mills in a Friday first round game, 77-7. No. 7 Huntington High (8-3) won Friday against No. 10 Cabell Midland, 14-7.
The Spring Valley Timberwolves won at home against the Highlanders in the regular season, 28-16.
Point Pleasant, rated No. 8 in Class AA, faces a challenge on the road against No. 1 Fairmont Senior (11-0) at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Point Pleasant (9-1) advanced Saturday with a victory at home against No. 9 Mingo Central (8-3), 65-36, and Fairmont Senior rolled past No. 16 Lewis County (6-5) by a 56-5 count.
Wheelersburg (11-1) plays in the Ohio Division V, Region 20 finals at 7 p.m. Saturday against Middletown Madison (12-0) at Hilliard Darby Stadium. Wheelersburg is rated No.1 in the region ahead of Middletown Madison.
Ashland (11-1) has a Kentucky Class 4A third-round game at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Johnson Central (11-1) in Paintsville. Johnson Central won its regular season home game against the Tomcats, 47-24.
Russell (8-4) is at home against Louisville Central (10-2) in a Kentucky Class 3A home game at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
Raceland (10-2) is at Paintsville (10-2) for a Kentucky Class A clash at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Paintsville won at Raceland in the regular season, 6-0.
Williamsburg visits Pikeville in a Kentucky Class A matchup of 9-2 teams while Boyle County (12-0) travels to Belfry (10-2) in Kentucky Class 3A, with both games at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
