BERLIN (AP) — World-record holder Paul Biedermann of Germany is skipping the world swimming championships in July in Barcelona.

Biedermann says he is behind in his training because of a long recover from the flu and will not take part in the Germany trials in two weeks.

The world holder in the 400-meter freestyle says he's hardly trained in the past two months and "such a long break is not so easy to make up for."

The world championships run July 19 to Aug. 4.
