Clippers Hire Jerry DeGregorio

October 2, 2001

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Jerry DeGregorio, the University of Rhode Island coach the past two years, joined the Los Angeles Clippers on Monday as director of player development.

DeGregorio, 39, resigned at Rhode Island after last season with a 12-48 record, the worst two-year stretch in school history.

He spent two seasons as an assistant at the school, when the Rams had a 45-22 record and in 1998 made it to the NCAA’s tournament’s final eight for the first time in school history. The 1997-98 and 1998-99 Rhode Island teams included Lamar Odom, the Clippers’ co-captain; Cuttino Mobley, now with the Houston Rockets; and Tyson Wheeler, formerly with the Denver Nuggets.

DeGregorio also coached at Mattatuck Community College (Conn.), and St. Thomas Acquinas High in New Britain, Conn.

Director of player development is a new position with the Clippers.
