No. 24 Purdue 88, E. Tennessee St. 74

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) _ Glenn Robinson scored 25 points and Cuonzo Martin added 21 as No. 24 Purdue defeated East Tennessee State 88-74 on Saturday night in the championship game of the Boilermaker Invitational.

East Tennessee State took its only lead at 3-2, when Eric Palmer sank a 3- point shot. But Purdue (3-0) went on a 9-0 run and never looked back.

The Boilermakers led 45-37 at halfitme. East Tennessee State (2-1) closed to 51-45 when Palmer sank a 3-pointer. But Purdue answered with two free throws by Robinson, who was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, and a jump shot by Matt Painter.

Palmer sank another 3-pointer to make it 55-48 with 16:10 remaining. But the Boilermakers then went on a 7-2 run, capped by Robinson’s jumper, to make it 62-50 with 14:02 to play. The Boilermakers’ largest lead was 18 points at 73-55. Palmer led the Buccaneers with 21 points. Trazel Silvers had 16 points and Jason Niblet added 15 for East Tennessee State.

Matt Waddell scored 15 points and Painter had 12 for Purdue.

Purdue led 34-18 with 5:32 left in the first half, but East Tennessee State closed to 42-37 on Silvers’ 3-pointer with 46 seconds left.
