Father charged in connection to baby’s death
FLORENCE, S.C. – A 36-year-old Florence man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 9-month-old child, according to the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
Bennett Jr. Grayson of 2022 Converse Drive, the father of the infant, has been charged with homicide by child abuse, according to investigators.
Investigators allege that on or about Saturday, Grayson caused harm to the child that lead to the death, specifically by leaving the infant unattended for an unknown period of time after leaving the child with a bottle to feed itself. When Grayson returned the child was not breathing, investigators allege.
The investigation is ongoing, and Florence County Coroner Keith Von Lutcken has ordered an autopsy.
Grayson is being held at the Florence County Detention Center while awaiting a bond hearing before a circuit court judge.
