IPFW event marks World AIDS Day

In observance of World AIDS Day, the Positive Resource Connection and the IPFW LGBT Resource Center will host an event with a speaker and free screenings Thursday at Walb Student Union, Room 114.

Free, 20-minute HIV testing will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. At noon, Timothy Price, community outreach coordinator for the Positive Resource Connection, will give a presentation, titled “Everything Has Changed! HIV in the 21st Century.” Price will discuss how medical advances have changed the face of HIV today.

This year marks the 28th anniversary of World AIDS Day, which is designed to increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve educational efforts toward stopping the spread of HIV and AIDS, which continues to be a global epidemic.

Jewish-Catholic ties in exhibit

“Building Bridges of Faith,” an exhibit featuring photographs of papal visits to the Holy Land, opens Monday at the Jewish Federation of Fort Wayne.

At 7 p.m. Monday, Rabbi Yehiel Poupko will speak on the advancement of the Roman Catholic Church’s relations with the Jewish people under the stewardship of John Paul II, Benedict XVI and Francis.

The exhibit and program are will be at the Madge Rothschild Resource Center, Rifkin Campus, 5200 Old Mill Road. A reception will follow the program, which will include as special guests Bishop Kevin Rhoades of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend; Sister Elise Kriss, president of the University of Saint Francis; and Itay Milner, deputy consul general of Israel to the Midwest.

The “Building Bridges” exhibit runs through Dec. 15.
