Akron man was under the influence when truck killed Eastlake girl, police say

EASTLAKE, Ohio — An Akron man was under the influence when his work truck went off the side of the road and struck and killed a teenager girl, police say.

Eric Dean Jones, 26, is charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, operating a vehicle under the influence and failure to control in the death of 17-year-old Maddisan Chase, the Eastlake Police Department said in a post on its Facebook page.

Investigators did not say what Jones was under the influence of.

He appeared at an arraignment hearing Wednesday morning Willoughby Municipal Court by video, police said. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and received of bond of $500,000.

The truck struck Chase Tuesday at 1:45 p.m. on Vine Street near East 337th Street, near the Vineyards Shopping Center.

Jones’ truck went off the right side of the street and struck Chase, then continued on before striking a pole at the corner of Vine Street and East 337th Street, investigators said.
