Dan Lipinski, one of last pro-life Democrats, faces primary rematch in Illinois
Marie Newman announced Tuesday that she will try again to take out Rep. Dan Lipinski of Illinois in the 2020 primary election, putting a target on the back of one of the last remaining pro-life Democrats in Congress.
Ms. Newman came within 2,100 votes of defeating Mr. Lipinski in 2018 in the 3rd Congressional District after harnessing the energy of liberal activists and making his anti-abortion views a central part of her campaign.
“This morning, I’m making it official: I’m running for Congress again to take on Dan Lipinski,” Ms. Newman said on Twitter.
Ms. Newman accused Mr. Lipinski of selling out the working class and embracing corporate special interest, while highlighting his vote against Obamacare and painting him as weak on Social Security.
“We deserve a representative who will vote like a real Democrat in Congress not someone who routinely sides with Trump and conservative interest groups over his own constituents,” she said.
