Texas woman pleads to sexually assaulting Beaver Dam teen
JUNEAU — A 29-year-old Texas woman was found guilty Monday of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old Beaver Dam boy.
Baylei Diane Smotherman pleaded no contest to second-degree sexual assault of a child. A sentencing hearing is scheduled May 23.
According to the criminal complaint, Beaver Dam police responded to AmericInn, 325 Seippel Blvd., Beaver Dam, on June 6 at 1 p.m. for a report of a 15-year-old boy in Smotherman’s room. The boy’s father was at the AmericInn and reported the boy was possibly in the room after locating the boy’s bike outside of the hotel.
The police went up to the room and Smotherman opened the door. The boy was found in the room and was advised that his father was looking for him. The boy told an officer that he was a friend of Smotherman, and that she had come to Beaver Dam to visit him. However, the officer saw items in the room that made them believe the relationship may have been sexual in nature.
There was also alcohol in the room and two champagne-type glasses on the hot tub. The boy said they had met each other on social media. After the boy allowed the officer to look at his phone, the boy admitted that he had sex with Smotherman while visiting her in the hotel room.
Smotherman allegedly admitted to coming to Beaver Dam to have sex with the boy, but said she thought he was 19.
