TV drama at its worst
We’re in television’s new golden age, dominated by an unprecedented lineup of renowned dramas spanning cable networks, premium channels and Netflix. Shows like ” Breaking Bad,” ” Game of Thrones,” ” Mad Men ” and ” House of Cards ” have practically redefined what television dramas can be. Gone are the days where schlocky episodes with no through lines are considered quality television. While some dramas provide authenticity, grit and actual insight into the human condition, some television dramas completely miss the mark. That’s why the experts at PrettyFamous, an entertainment data site by Graphiq, assembled a ranking of the worst dramas both on and off the air. These shows fail to deliver some (or all) of the elements that define contemporary prestige television. To compile this list, the team at PrettyFamous looked at all TV shows in the “drama” genre with at least 10,000 votes on IMDb. Some of the series on the list belong to sub-genres of drama, including crime dramas and historical dramas. Then the data analysts ranked the TV series on their Smart Ratings — a score out of 100 that takes into account a show’s IMDb votes, IMDb rating and the number of Emmy awards won — with the worst television drama taking the No. 1 spot. When ties occur, the shows are ordered alphabetically. From short-lived shows like “Intelligence” to long-running series like “Murder, She Wrote,” see which shows won’t be remembered as part of television’s golden age.Note: Show descriptions are sourced (with minor edits) from Gracenote.
