Herd golf places sixth at Guyan C.C.

HUNTINGTON — Marshall University men’s golf completed the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational tournament Tuesday at Guyan Golf and Country Club in sixth place out of 15 teams.

Wichita State was the team winner at 19-under-par (549) for 36 holes.

Eastern Kentucky was the runner-up at 13-under (555). Davidson and Dayton shared third place at 8-under (560). Marshall was 1-under (567).

Zac Owens of Wichita State won the individual at 8-under 68-68 —134.

Billy Basham from Eastern Kentucky came in second at 6-under (69-67 — 136).

Marshall freshman Isaac Prine played as an individual and tied for 14th at 2-under (67-73 — 140).

Top finishers for the Thundering Herd team were senior Thomas Frazier and sophomore Matt Hoffman tied for 21st. Frazier shot 70-71 — 141 and Hoffman shot 68-73 —141,

Other Herd golfers were Kyle Mitchell (70-72 — 142), Camden Moore (73-70 — 143), Ben Roeder (72-72 — 143), Will Straub (75-71 — 146), Brad Plaziak (72-74 — 146), Cameron Root (73-76 — 149) and Cole Moore (80-74 — 154).

Men’s soccer

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Cabrel Happi Kamseu’s first-half goal at 43:07 led the 19th-ranked Virginia Cavaliers past Marshall, 1-0, in a Tuesday night men’s soccer match at Knockner Stadium.

Colin Shutler of the Cavaliers (2-0-2) made one save and recorded the shutout. Paulo Pita had four saves for Marshall (2-3-1).
