United Tribes gets $2.6 million for environmental sciences
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — United Tribes Technical College has received a $2.6 million grant to expand its environmental science program.
The college says the grant from the National Science Foundation will also fund additional faculty to do research and establish a research center on campus. Environmental science department chairman Jeremy Guinn tells the Bismarck Tribune the grant will allow for additional studies of tribal agriculture, water and energy.
Guinn says the goal is to provide data that tribes need to make decisions regarding sustainability and management of their land and natural resources. He says faculty members and students will help tribes conduct surveys of the natural resources on the reservations and assist them documenting the findings.
