Carbondale Man Fought With Police, Yelled That He Had A Gun
A man fought with officers in Carbondale and yelled “I have a gun, you better shoot me” as he struggled, according to a criminal complaint.
Shawn P. Balmer did not get shot. Officers who arrested him needed to use three sets of handcuffs and a sturdy plastic tie to subdue him.
Balmer, 22, 61 Belmont St., is charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, harassment and disorderly conduct.
Police said that Balmer fought with officers who were sent to his house Dec. 22 for a report of a suicidal male.
Officer Bill Wolfe tried to speak with Balmer but he shoved the officer and started to throw things in his apartment. While he fought with police, he yelled that he has a gun but there is no indication that he actually did.
Later, police learned that Balmer had been drinking and using drugs.
One officer managed to handcuff one of his wrists while another officer got a handcuff on another of his wrists. A third pair of handcuffs linked them together. Police also needed a plastic tie usually used to secure trees to fasten his legs together.
Bail and preliminary hearing information was not available Friday.
