Badgers men’s basketball: Wisconsin’s Ethan Happ named Naismith Award semifinalist
Ethan Happ is one of 10 semifinalists for the Naismith Trophy, given to the college player of the year.
Happ, a sophomore forward for the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team, leads the Badgers in scoring (14.1), rebounding (9.0), steals (2.1) and blocks (1.2). He’s second on the team with 83 assists, trailing teammate senior forward Nigel Hayes by one in that category.
UW’s Frank Kaminsky won the award two years ago after a sensational senior season with the Badgers, who reached the NCAA tournament title game before falling to Duke.
Joining Happ as semifinalists are UCLA freshman guard Lonzo Ball, Villanova senior guard Josh Hart, North Carolina junior forward Justin Jackson, Kansas freshman guard Josh Jackson, Duke sophomore guard Luke Kennard, Kansas senior point guard Frank Mason III, Baylor junior forward Johnathan Motley, Purdue sophomore forward Caleb Swanigan and Gonzaga junior guard Nigel Williams-Goss.
