Woman Killed in Weekend Leominster Crash
LEOMINSTER -- The exact cause of a fatal crash on Johnny Appleseed Lane over the weekend remains unknown as the incident continues to be investigated by the state police, a spokesman for Worcester County District Attorney Joseph Early Jr. said Wednesday.
The crash involving a Nissan Rogue took place at 171 Johnny Appleseed Lane at about 10:40 Sunday evening and claimed the life of a woman who had been a passenger in the vehicle, said district attorney spokesman Timothy Connolly.
Connolly did not share the identity of the passenger or the vehicle’s driver. He did say the driver was a male who was taken from the crash scene to HealthAlliance Hospital and later UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester for treatment. He did not comment further on the driver’s condition apart from specifying the crash has only resulted in one fatality.
The passenger did not die at the scene, but instead “some time after the crash,” Connolly said.
Though unable to say whether speed had played a part in the crash, Connolly did say the vehicle did strike two trees and one fire hydrant before coming to a complete stop.
“The car failed to negotiate a bend in the road on Johnny Appleseed Lane,” he said. “The cause and other aspects of the crash are still under investigation.”
