NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) — Officers at a southern Arizona border crossing found nearly three pounds (1.3 kilograms) of heroin in packages taped onto a woman's buttocks and stuffed into the back of her jeans.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say the 47-year-old Nogales, Arizona, woman was detained Tuesday after the heroin was found during an inspection.

According to CBP, the woman tried to smuggle the heroin from Mexico while using a pedestrian lane at the border crossing in Nogales.

The woman's identity wasn't released.

Authorities say the heroin had an estimated value of more than $45,000.
