NEW YORK — Corey Henson scored 24 points and Michael Carey added 21 and Wagner defeated the Sacred Heart men’s basketball team 75-62 on Saturday.

Henson had 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting in the first half as the Seahawks (6-8, 2-2 Northeastern Conference) took a 35-31 lead after trailing 16-10.

Mike Aaman opened the second half with a layup, Carey followed with a jumper after an offensive rebound and Henson hit a 3-pointer as Wagner quickly pushed the lead to 11 in the first 90 seconds off the second half.

The Pioneers (6-11, 1-3) got it back to two on Sean Hoehn 3 at the 12:03 mark before Carey scored six-straight points. Quincy McKnight’s steal and layup at 8:03 again cut the deficit to two and Matej Buovac’s 3 at 3:37 made it a three-point game.

But Wagner missed five-straight shots, committed two turnovers the Seahawks scored 10-straight points.

Buovac had 15 points and Devon Barnett 14 for Sacred Heart.


NEW BRITAIN — The Pioneers suffered their first NEC loss of the season Saturday afternoon to the Blue Devils.

Sacred Heart (5-9, 2-1 NEC) led 17-14 after the first quarter, but the Pioneers managed to score only seven points in the second quarter to fall behind for good by the half.

Three players reached double figures for Sacred Heart — Katherine Haines (15 points), Hannah Kimmel (10) and Kelcey Castro (12).

Aleah Epps posted a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds to lead Central Connecticut (4-10, 3-0).


ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. — The Lions shot 56.7 percent from the floor to eclipse the century mark in points for the third time this season in a win over the Purple Knights.

Five players reached double figures in scoring for Molloy (8-7, 4-2 ECC), including four starters. Charlie Marquardt led all scorers with 26 points, Curtis Jenkins just missed a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds off the bench, Jaylen Morris had 18 points, Mike Guzzardi scored 14 points on a perfect 6-for-6 shooting and Nick Corbett chipped in 10 points in the win for the Lions.

Bridgeport (7-8, 3-3) scored the game’s opening basket, but it was the Purple Knights’ only lead of the contest. Sam Joseph led Bridgeport’s offense with 22 points, while Rakim Lesane added 16 points, including 14-for-16 from the free throw line, and 11 rebounds and Stefano Osuji scored 10 points.


ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. — The Lions used a 19-7 run in the third quarter to pull away with an ECC victory over the Purple Knights.

With the game tied at 34-34 with 6:38 left in the third quarter, Molloy (12-4, 4-2 ECC) took the lead for good on its game-winning run.

Bridgeport’s Camera Miley led all scorers with 26 points in the loss. She was joined in double-digit scoring for the Purple Knights (8-8, 2-4) by Auriele Leblanc-Florent and Nicole Johnson, who scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The Lions were led by double-doubles from Kamala Thompson (21 points, 12 rebounds) and Symone Kelly (21 points, 15 rebounds).
