Sound Tigers notes: Early maintenance for four

NOT QUITE DODGED: Bridgeport Sound Tigers coach Brent Thompson said defenseman Adam Pelech was sore Tuesday after blocking a shot late in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Springfield.

Pelech and three forwards — Bracken Kearns, Ross Johnston and Travis St. Denis — got what Thompson termed maintenance days as the Sound Tigers practiced at the Wonderland of Ice in Bridgeport.

“It’s precautionary,” Thompson said. “We want to make sure we’re ready for the weekend.”

With the circus at Webster Bank Arena, Bridgeport plays two games this weekend in Pennsylvania —Friday at Lehigh Valley and Saturday at Hershey.

Bridgeport’s other nine defensemen took part in practice. The parent New York Islanders remained at six defensemen on their roster.

DANIS TO CAPS: Former Sound Tigers goalie Yann Danis signed with St. John’s on Monday. It’s kind of full circle for the veteran goalie: He began his career in the Montreal Canadiens organization, whose AHL affiliate then was Hamilton and now is St. John’s.

Bridgeport and the Islanders were his second organization, but the IceCaps will be his sixth AHL team in five years. He was an AHL all-star for Albany last season.

WATCH YOUR HEAD: St. John’s Michael McCarron got a two-game suspension from the AHL for head-butting Providence’s Justin Hickman, the former Sound Tigers forward, in a fight at the end of Sunday’s game.
