Husker sweeps Oregon to reach fourth straight national semifinal
MINNEAPOLIS — Nebraska wrote a new line for its volleyball history book Saturday by qualifying for its fourth consecutive Final Four by sweeping Oregon 25-22, 25-23, 25-17.
The No. 6-ranked Huskers improved to 28-6 by winning their 12th consecutive match, including narrow victories in the first two sets. That’s a path to victory the Huskers struggled with through the first two months of the season.
But the 25-22 and 25-23 victories backed up head coach John Cook’s assertion that Nebraska is the most improved team in the country since the start of the season.
Mikaela Foecke led all players with 16 kills, while Lauren Stivrins (11) and Lexi Sun (10) also finished in double figures. Nebraska hit .345 while holding the No. 14 Ducks to a .250 success rate.
Foecke, Stivrins and Nicklin Hames made the all-tournament team, with Foecke earning most valuable player honors.
Nebraska will play Illinois Thursday in the Final Four at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
