Montana State men’s basketball signs guard from Finland
BOZEMAN – Montana State men’s basketball coach Brian Fish announced the signing of Finland product Lassi Nikkarinen on Tuesday.
Nikkarinen, a 6-foot-1 guard, averaged 13.2 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.4 rebounds a game for HBA-Marsky in his hometown of Helsinki last season. In 27 games he shot 41 percent (46-for-111) from 3-point range and maintained an assist-to-turnover ratio of three-to-one.
Finland has produced several high-level U.S. college players recently, including Arizona’s Laurie Markkanen, a projected top-10 pick in the upcoming NBA Draft.
Fish indicated that Nikkarinen was selected to play for Finland’s under-20 national team in the European U20 championships in Romania this summer.
