Man charged in groping woman
A man is facing charges after he allegedly groped a woman, and then prevented her from leaving his home.
Shawn Canada, 50, was charged with fourth-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct, a felony, and fifth-degree non-consensual sexual contact, a gross misdemeanor, in Olmsted County District Court on April 12. He’s set to make his first appearance on June 7.
The charges stem from a Feb. 6 incident in which Canada allegedly groped the woman’s breasts over her clothing, court documents say. The two arranged to hang out at Canada’s house after meeting a week before at the Government Center, court documents say.
The woman told Rochester police that Canada grabbed her from behind and groped her breasts over her clothing, court documents say. He also kissed her on the cheek. When the woman asked Canada what he was doing, he told her he was just trying to be her friend, court document say.
She repeatedly told Canada to stop, court documents say, but he didn’t. Eventually, the woman laid down on the floor because she felt nauseous.
Canada allegedly laid next to her and began caressing her; she again told him not to touch her. He held her arms down and “put his weight on top of her so that she couldn’t move,” court documents say. He again tried to touch her breasts and kiss her, and also tried to touch her genital area, according to court documents. At one point, he allegedly tried to unzip his pants.
Canada blocked the door and argued with the woman as she tried to leave, before telling her to leave.
Canada denied touching the woman, according to court documents.
