MADRID (AP) — Javier Tebas has been elected the new president of the Spanish football league.

Tebas ran unopposed to replace Jose Luis Astiazaran after he decided to not seek a third four-year term.

Tebas, born in 1962, is a sports lawyer and former president of Huesca football club. He was a vice president of the league before winning the presidency.

Tebas says that one of his priorities will be reducing ticket prices to increase attendance at games.

He also says he supports maintaining the fixture schedule which has expanded in recent seasons to spread games from Friday to Monday.
