SEOUL, South Korea (AP) _ Spain assured itself a spot in the medal round with a 94-84 victory over Canada in men’s Olympic basketball Friday.

The victory came despite a magnificent second-half shooting performance by Canada’s Karl Tilleman. During one stretch, Tilleman scored 21 consecutive points, all from 3-point range. He finished the game with 10 3-pointers and 36 points.

Spain, 3-1 in the preliminary round, took control of the game with a 14-3 run that began midway through the second half and gave the Spaniards an 82-74 lead. The only Canadian basket during the spurt was a 3-pointer by Tilleman, who made six in a row at one point.

After taking that eight-point lead, Spain never allowed Canada to get closer than four in the final six minutes.

Canada, 1-3, led by as many as 13 in the first half, but Spain used a late 9-0 run to pull within six at halftime. An 11-2 run to start the second half tied the game at 56.

Andres Jimenez scored 23 points and Jose Biriukov had 21 for Spain. Eli Pasquale scored 19 for Canada, which needs a victory over China on Saturday to reach the medal round.
