1 newcomer in NZ squad for Bangladesh ODIs
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Uncapped opening batsman Anton Devcich has been named in the New Zealand one-day cricket team to play in Bangladesh in late October and November.
The 25-year-old left-hander recently toured India with the New Zealand “A″ team, where he scored 115 in a four-day match against India “A″ and 48 and 66 in one-day matches.
New Zealand will play Bangladesh in one-day internationals at Dhaka on Oct. 29 and Nov. 1, at Fatullah on Nov. 4 and Sylhet on Nov. 6.
Selection manager Bruce Edgar said Devcich was an opening batsman who “is also an outstanding fielder with the ability to contribute as a left arm spin bowling option which will be useful in the sub-continent.”
Fast bowler Adam Milne returns to the New Zealand team which will play one Twenty20 international against Bangladesh.
“Adam returns to the team after a number of injury concerns and he offers the squad genuine pace,” Edgar said. “We’ve been impressed with his rhythm and pace on the New Zealand ‘A’ tour of India.”
Opener Martin Guptill and left-arm spinner Daniel Vettori were not considered for selection because of injuries. In Guptill’s absence, Devcich is likely to open the batting with Hamish Rutherford.
