Get ready for even more Joe Manganiello — in ‘Rampage’ and as Deathstroke
Mt. Lebanon’s own Joe Manganiello is everywhere these days.
If you went to see “Justice League,” you saw him both before the movie — in a trailer for the upcoming movie “Rampage” with Dwayne Johnson — and at the very end, in a surprise appearance in the post-credits scene as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke, the sword-wielding DC Comics assassin.
In the scene, Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) after escaping from prison asks Deathstroke, “Shouldn’t we have a league of our own?” — hinting at a sequel to the less-than-blockbuster “Justice League.” On Nov. 25, Manganiello posted the first photo of his Deathstroke character on Twitter.
In “Rampage,” based on the 1980s video game, Manganiello plays a military character named Burke. The film, due out April 20, 2018, centers around a rogue genetic experiment gone awry that transforms animals into raging monsters. It also stars Naomie Harris, Malin Akerman and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Manganiello, 40, also has several movies coming up in the next year or so “The Batman” with Ben Affleck, “Shoplifters of the World” about a group of friends reeling from the demise of the band The Smiths, and the starring role in “Stano,” about a once-aspiring baseball player returns to his Bronx neighborhood after 17 years in prison. “Stano” also stars Manganiello’s wife, Sofia Vergara, and his “True Blood” co-star, Denis O’Hare.
And finally, Manganiello recently crossed an item off his bucket list with a trip to Iceland with a few friends, led by Eddie Bauer athlete KC Deane.
In a post on Twitter, the actor says, “I wanted to have an adventure. I’ve never seen anything like this country. These are things that you read in books as a child — you don’t think they exist anywhere other than your mind.”
