QB coach brings familiar face for Rodgers on Packers’ staff
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — When Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers gets ready for his 15th season, he'll be working with a new coach and offensive coordinator.
Plus, for the first time in his career, he'll be directing a new offense.
At least there will be a constant for the 35-year-old quarterback: the return of Luke Getsy as quarterbacks coach.

ATLANTA (AP) — Football helmets could be getting another boost toward enhanced safety features with announcements by two major manufacturers Friday.

And VICIS is expanding its $30 million fundraising program, adding further investments from quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Alex Smith.
Packers bring back Getsy as QBs coach to work with Rodgers
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers are bringing back Luke Getsy, this time as their quarterbacks coach to work with Aaron Rodgers.
Getsy spent four seasons on former coach Mike McCarthy's staff before leaving to become Mississippi State's offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach last year.
Getsy was Green Bay's receivers coach from 2016-17 and a quality control coach from 2014-15. He will help Rodgers adjust to new coach Matt LaFleur's offense.
Cardinals hire veteran coach Clements as offense assistant
TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Longtime NFL assistant Tom Clements has been hired as passing game coordinator/quarterbacks coach on the staff of new coach Kliff Kingsbury in Arizona.

Packers name Jags assistant Hackett as offensive coordinator
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers hired former Jacksonville assistant Nathaniel Hackett as their new offensive coordinator Wednesday.
Hackett spent most of the last four seasons with the Jaguars as quarterbacks coach (2015-16) and then as offensive coordinator before he was fired in November after Jacksonville lost its seventh consecutive game.
New Packers coach Matt LaFleur is also a former offensive coordinator, for the Los Angeles Rams and then last season for Tennessee.
Matt LaFleur takes over in Green Bay as the head coach
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Matt LaFleur has never been in charge of an NFL team before, and until last year had never called plays for one either.
On Wednesday, he took over the Green Bay Packers, who have missed the playoffs two years in a row — and a team with a two-time MVP quarterback in Aaron Rodgers, whom LaFleur must help to get back to playing his best.
"I briefly spoke to (Rodgers) prior to accepting the job," LaFleur said during an introductory news conference at Lambeau Field.
Patriots defense aims to win ‘mind game’ with crafty Rivers
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Patriots defensive end Trey Flowers says thinking about how to defend against the Los Angeles Chargers has kept him up at night.

Packers confirm hiring of Matt LaFleur as coach
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Matt LaFleur has been named head coach of the Green Bay Packers, the team announced Tuesday night, confirming multiple reports from a day earlier.

Bears safety Eddie Jackson questionable for playoff game
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Bears will wait until right before game time for Sunday's playoff matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles to make a determination on the availability of safety Eddie Jackson.
Jackson was officially listed as questionable Friday on the final injury report after he went through a second straight limited practice. He hasn't had a full practice since before the Dec. 16 game against Green Bay when he suffered a right ankle injury.
Giving big-money to quarterbacks guarantees nothing
Giving quarterbacks big money doesn't guarantee success or even playoff appearances.
The NFL's six highest-paid quarterbacks in 2018 will be spectators this postseason. Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers ($33.5 million), Atlanta's Matt Ryan ($30 million), Minnesota's Kirk Cousins ($28 million), San Francisco's Jimmy Garoppolo ($27.5 million), Detroit's Matthew Stafford ($27 million) and Oakland's Derek Carr ($25 million) couldn't lead their teams to the playoffs.
Bears’ Trubisky tries to steer clear of playoff mistakes
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — It hasn't been a streak of accuracy on a level with Aaron Rodgers, Drew Brees or Tom Brady. Nevertheless, Chicago Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky has eliminated interceptions over his past three starts.
Whether Trubisky can continue making good decisions and throws in his first playoff game at Soldier Field against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles could go a long way toward determining if the Bears' season continues.
Lions beat up on Packers 31-0; Rodgers suffers concussion
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Detroit Lions kicker Matt Prater lined up for a field goal but seemed a little antsy, gesturing with his arms like a quarterback calling for a shotgun snap.
It turns out that was exactly what it was.
Prater's 8-yard pass on a fake field-goal try was a high and a little wobbly, but Levine Toilolo was so wide open in the end zone that it didn't matter.

Jordy Nelson hitting stride late in season for Raiders
ALAMEDA, Calif. (AP) — Jordy Nelson's debut season in Oakland didn't go exactly as he hoped when he signed with the Raiders following 10 years in Green Bay.
A team he hoped would be good enough to contend for the playoffs went into rebuilding mode instead. He dealt with knee injuries that hampered him early in the season, and it took time for him to build up a rapport with Derek Carr after so many years of catching passes from Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers leads Packers to wild 44-38 overtime win over Jets
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Aaron Rodgers refused to sit this one out, even with the playoffs out of the question. And he willed the Green Bay Packers from setting some dubious franchise history.
A banged-up Rodgers threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Davante Adams with 6:23 left in overtime, capping an eye-popping performance by leading the Packers to a wild 44-38 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday.
Bears rule out Jackson, Lynch for game against 49ers
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — The NFC North champion Chicago Bears have ruled out injured Pro Bowl safety Eddie Jackson and linebacker Aaron Lynch out for their game at San Francisco on Sunday.

Jets’ Darnold a fan of work by Packers’ Rodgers on field, TV
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Sam Darnold has been a fan of Aaron Rodgers for years and wouldn't mind following in his footsteps on the field.
And, on the small screen.
The New York Jets rookie quarterback watched film of NFL stars while he was developing his own skills as a signal caller in high school, in college at USC and even now as a pro himself. One of the most frequently viewed players in Darnold's studies has been Rodgers, the Green Bay Packers' two-time MVP.
Rodgers gets 7th Pro Bowl nod in Packers’ playoff-less year
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A lost season coming to a close without a trip to the playoffs for the Green Bay Packers is ending in a familiar spot for Aaron Rodgers. He's headed to the Pro Bowl for the seventh time in his career.
"Yeah, I think there's a lot of pride with that. Especially knowing the struggles early in the season with my health, and I'm very appreciative," Rodgers said Wednesday.
With division in hand, Bears going for first-round bye
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Coach Matt Nagy is saving the big celebrations for later.
He opted instead to spend "quality time" at home with his four sons, ate sushi, consumed "one beverage" and kept his eyes on the prizes still out there after the Chicago Bears clinched the NFC North.
One he would love, though it probably won't come gift-wrapped: A first-round bye.
"You wanna ask me if I want the first-round bye, or the No. 1 seed? Absolutely, give it to me right now," he said.
Packers, Philbin prep for final 2 games of losing season
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers find themselves in unfamiliar territory, with no playoff berth to chase but quarterback Aaron Rodgers healthy enough to play in the final two games of a going-nowhere season.
If interim head coach Joe Philbin has anything to say about it, anyone who is healthy enough to play - including Rodgers - will play next weekend against the New York Jets despite the circumstances.
Bears clinch NFC North with 24-17 victory over Packers
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Bears clinched the NFC North and helped knock Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers out of playoff contention.
They could not have asked for a sweeter scenario.
Mitchell Trubisky threw for two touchdowns, Eddie Jackson ended Rodgers' NFL-record streak without an interception and Chicago clinched the division with a 24-17 victory over the Packers on Sunday.
Bears clinch 1st playoff berth since 2010, beat Packers
CHICAGO (AP) — Mitchell Trubisky threw for two touchdowns, Eddie Jackson ended Aaron Rodgers' NFL-record streak without an interception and the Chicago Bears clinched the NFC North with a 24-17 victory over the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
The Bears (10-4) secured their first playoff appearance since the 2010 team won the division, and clinching with a rare victory over their heated rivals made it all the more sweet.
The Latest: Steelers beat Pats for first time since ’11
The Latest on NFL's Week 15 (all times Eastern):
The Pittsburgh Steelers have beaten the New England Patriots for the first time since 2011.
The Steelers' 17-10 win at Heinz Field kept the Steelers (8-5-1) ahead of the Ravens (8-6) in the NFC North. A loss would have put them on the outside of the playoff picture with two weeks remaining.
The Patriots were denied their 10th consecutive AFC East title.
Rodgers throws interception as Packers lose 24-17 to Bears
CHICAGO (AP) — Aaron Rodgers missed a couple of open receivers. He got picked off. He came up empty when the Green Bay Packers needed a big play.
Nothing like his usual work against the Chicago Bears.
Rodgers looked shaky in Green Bay's 24-17 loss to Chicago on Sunday, throwing an interception for the first time since September and failing to throw a touchdown pass for the first time in more than a year.
FANTASY PLAYS: Semifinal lineup advice for Week 15 in NFL
Fantasy semifinals in Week 15 give greater consequence to unexpected breakouts and duds from stars — win and you're playing for a title, lose and it's on to 2019.
Playing games in mid-December also assures that weather will be a factor for some players in a week where matchups favor quarterbacks. Bad weather brings the potential of heavy workloads for several running backs.
Bears’ sweet scenario: Clinch North, beat Packers to do it
LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Clinch the NFC North championship and beat a heated rival to do it? The Chicago Bears couldn't have asked for a sweeter scenario.
That's exactly the opportunity they're staring at when they host Aaron Rodgers and the fading Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon.
"It would be very exciting," quarterback Mitchell Trubisky said. "We know this is a big week for us, and a lot comes with it."

Packers beat sliding Falcons 34-20, 1st win under Philbin
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — A tough week for the Green Bay Packers ended with a sorely needed win that relied on a familiar formula.
They beat a warm-weather team on a chilly afternoon at Lambeau Field by building a big lead and winning the turnover margin.
Aaron Rodgers threw two touchdown passes and set an NFL record for interception-free football, and the Packers beat the Atlanta Falcons 34-20 on Sunday to win their first game under interim head coach Joe Philbin.
Philbin: Winston Moss was let go because of ‘fit’ with team
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Packers interim head coach Joe Philbin said that it wasn't easy to let associate head coach Winston Moss go from the coaching staff, but that he came to the decision because he "just didn't feel like the fit right now was where it needs to be."
Packers president Murphy to hire next coach, GM involved
GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — The Green Bay Packers' head-coaching vacancy should be appealing for one big reason.
He plays quarterback and signed a four-year, $134 million contract extension this year.
Two-time NFL MVP Aaron Rodgers, though, will not be involved in the process of selecting Mike McCarthy's successor, but is free to provide input, team president Mark Murphy said on Monday.
