When Oklahoma runs …
So far this season, the Sooners have perfected the art of running back by committee. OU has three backs with more than 400 yards, led by Trey Sermon with 495 and three touchdowns. Sermon, though, didn’t get a single carry last week, while Rodney Anderson ran for a career-high 181 yards to push his season total to 410. Then there’s Abdul Adams, who has 467 yards and averages an astonishing 10.4 yards per carry.

Five things to know about Oklahoma
• All eyes on Baker Mayfield. In Big 12 play this season, Mayfield is averaging 10.2 yards per pass attempt to go along with 13 TDs and three interceptions. Last season against the Cowboys, he went 13-for-19 for 288 yards and 3 TDs in a 38-20 win.
OU football notebook: So why didn’t Trey Sermon play against Texas Tech?
No selfishness in running backs room
For the first time in a decade, Oklahoma has three running backs with at least 400 rushing yards -- and the season is only eight games old.
Trey Sermon (487 yards), Abdul Adams (467) and Rodney Anderson (410) lead the Sooners’ ground game. All have been the team’s leading rusher in multiple games (Sermon and Adams three times, Anderson twice).
When Sermon didn’t get a carry against Texas Tech on Saturday night, it didn’t go unnoticed by Sooner Nation.
Oklahoma RB Anderson shines when opportunity knocks
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — It seemed Oklahoma running back Rodney Anderson might never get the chance to live up to his enormous potential.
He suffered a season-ending knee injury two games into the 2015 season and a season-ending neck injury in fall camp in 2016.

Underclassman running backs fuel Big 12 attacks
The running game has become increasingly important in the Big 12 this season — with a host of talented young backs leading the way.
Seven of the league's top 10 rushers were underclassmen as the league reached the midway point of the season, led by Oklahoma State's Justice Hill, Iowa State's David Montgomery and Oklahoma's talented duo of Trey Sermon and Abdul Adams.
OU-Texas chalk talk: Players to watch, Longhorns an underdog again and do the Rileys have a house divided?
A gameday snapshot as the Sooners play Texas at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas.
Players to watch on Saturday
CeeDee Lamb: Will the Sooners’ best wide receiver play? Will he not play? It’s probably going to be a game-time decision but OU needs all the playmakers it can get.
Jordan Thomas: There’s no doubt that Texas quarterbacks will attack the OU cornerback who has struggled in two Big 12 games this season.
Will Oklahoma's Abdul Adams, CeeDee Lamb, Steven Parker, Dru Samia and others be healthy enough to play Saturday against Texas?
As of Wednesday evening, that is still unknown.
“A couple of those guys were pretty banged up in that (Iowa State) game and haven’t been able to do a whole lot,” Sooners coach Lincoln Riley said. “We’ve tried to let a few of them let some things calm down and try to make some decisions here later in the week.”

WHAT'S AT STAKE
Oklahoma is trying to keep up with Alabama and Clemson in the perception race as the Oct. 31 date for the first College Football Playoff rankings draws nearer. Iowa State has played solid games against Iowa and Texas, and a breakthrough here would be huge for the program.
OU football: RB Abdul Adams has come a long way since last year’s game at Iowa State
NORMAN — The last time the Oklahoma Sooners played Iowa State, Samaje Perine was injured and Joe Mixon was suspended.
That left OU with only a true freshman at running back, and especially after Abdul Adams struggled, the Sooners turned their rushing attack over to fullback Dimitri Flowers.
That night was a difficult one for Adams, who is soft-spoken but has admitted the challenges of that game on multiple occasions.
“You know, it was tough,” Adams said Monday. “But I’m a team player.”
Oklahoma RBs Adams, Sermon fill void for NFL departees
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — They aren't quite Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon, but Oklahoma running backs Abdul Adams and Trey Sermon are getting the job done for the third-ranked Sooners.

Reset after Baylor
When the Oklahoma Sooners came out of the locker room in Waco, Texas, there was a quiet mood as many of them slumped to the bus. Other stayed for interviews, but some of those players were short with their words. Despite what became a thrilling victory against Baylor, the Sooners looked tired.
OU football: Still no feature back, but the Sooners are working for more explosive rushing plays
NORMAN — Monday in Oklahoma’s Red Room, sophomore Abdul Adams did a lot of talking about patience.
UTEP at No. 7 Oklahoma: Who has the edge? We break down the matchups.
Key matchup: When Oklahoma runs…
The Sooners have not named a starting running back, indicating that Abdul Adams, Rodney Anderson, Marcelias Sutton and perhaps Trey Sermon will split carries to start the season. This game will be crucial in OU’s search to solidify its running game in preparation for next week at Ohio State. UTEP, though, ranked 96th in rushing yards allowed last season.

Oklahoma sorting out replacements for RBs Perine, Mixon
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — In most cases, replacing two record-holders at one position would be cause for concern.
Oklahoma feels as if it is reloading.
The Sooners need to fill the slots left open when running backs Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon chose to leave early for the NFL. Perine left Oklahoma as the school's all-time rushing leader, and he's climbing the depth chart with the Washington Redskins.
Oklahoma seeks 18th straight win over Iowa State

Line: Oklahoma by 21

WHAT'S AT STAKE
Oklahoma is likely out of the playoff race. But the Sooners have a clear path to the Big 12 title unless they fall to the Cyclones, something they haven't done since 1990. Iowa State is all about the future right now, and an upset on national TV would be an enormous boost for the program.
Oklahoma-Texas Tech Preview Capsule
No. 16 Oklahoma (4-2, 3-0 Big 12) at Texas Tech (3-3, 1-2), 8 p.m. (FOX)
Line: Oklahoma by 13.
Series Record: Oklahoma leads 17-6.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
A win would give the Sooners their first 4-0 start in Big 12 play since 2004 and keep them in the hunt for the conference title. Texas Tech looks to end a two-game skid with losses to Kansas State and West Virginia.
No. 16 Oklahoma loses injured RB Perine for at least 2 games
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops says standout running back Samaje Perine will miss at least the next two games with a pulled muscle.
Perine, a junior who has rushed for 475 yards and six touchdowns for No. 16 Oklahoma, was injured early in the 38-17 win Saturday over Kansas State.
