A next-day bounce back keeps their slim NL wild-card hopes alive.
BOSTON (AP) — Royals slugger Mike Moustakas has left Kansas City's game against the Boston Red Sox after getting hit by a pitch in the first inning.
The team says X-rays were negative and Moustakas has a bruised right forearm. He was plunked by Red Sox lefty Eduardo Rodriguez.
Moustakas is the Royals' regular third baseman. In a late lineup switch, he started at designated hitter Monday night, with Cheslor Cuthbert playing third.
DETROIT (AP) — Buck Farmer kept throwing changeups to Mike Moustakas, and the Kansas City slugger eventually adjusted.
"After the first three or four, I was starting sitting on it," Moustakas said. "Finally, he ended up leaving one up, and I was able to get a good swing on it."
Moustakas hit a tiebreaking, three-run homer in the seventh inning, and the Kansas City Royals outlasted the Detroit Tigers 8-5 on Sunday to earn a split of their four-game series.
DETROIT (AP) — The promise of youth, and the price of inexperience.
It's all part of the equation this year for the rebuilding Detroit Tigers.
Hours after JaCoby Jones homered in the 10th inning to give the Tigers a 3-2 victory over Kansas City, rookie first baseman Niko Goodrum dropped a grounder and made a wild throw as Detroit squandered a chance at a doubleheader sweep. The Royals scored twice in the ninth to win the second game 3-2 on Friday night, snapping a nine-game losing streak.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Royals placed Alex Gordon on the disabled list with a torn hip labrum and recalled fellow outfielder Abraham Almonte from Triple-A Omaha before Tuesday night's game against Seattle.
Gordon woke up with pain on Monday and was examined in greater detail Tuesday, and the results showed that an old tear he'd been playing through had worsened.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Right-hander Dan Otero agreed Friday to a $1.3 million, one-year contract with the Cleveland Indians, who reached an $825,000, one-year deal with outfielder Abraham Almonte.
Otero, 32, went 3-0 with a 2.85 ERA in 52 appearances and 60 innings during his second season with Cleveland in 2017.
Almonte batted .233 with three homers and 14 RBIs in 69 games for the Indians this season.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Francisco Lindor broke two bats, borrowed one from a teammate, and hit a home run.
It's been like that for the Cleveland Indians of late.
The Indians stretched their franchise-record winning streak to 18 games, beating the Baltimore Orioles 3-2 Sunday night behind homers from Lindor and Roberto Perez in the sixth inning.
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Indians have activated outfielder Lonnie Chisenhall from the 10-day disabled list and optioned outfielder Tyler Naquin to Triple-A Columbus.
Chisenhall sprained his right shoulder running into a wall during an exhibition game on March 24. He appeared in four minor league rehab games.
Chisenhall batted .286 with eight home runs and 57 RBIs in 126 games for the American League champions last season.
PHOENIX (AP) — Patrick Corbin threw six scoreless innings, Chris Owings homered and had three hits and the Arizona Diamondbacks completed a three-game sweep of the Cleveland Indians with a 3-2 victory Sunday.

Cleveland's Corey Kluber (0-1) scattered eight hits in six innings, allowing three runs, two earned.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Edwin Encarnacion already is impressing the Cleveland Indians.
The Texas Rangers have already seen too much of the slugger.
Encarnacion hit a tying homer in the eighth inning of his first game with the Indians, and they scored three times in the ninth to open their American League title defense with an 8-5 win over the Texas Rangers on Monday night.
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — The Cleveland Indians will be without two starters to begin the season with right fielder Lonnie Chisenhall joining Jason Kipnis on the disabled list.
Chisenhall hurt his right shoulder when he crashed into an outfield wall last week and will not be ready when the AL champions open the season on Monday in Texas.
Kipnis has been sidelined with right shoulder inflammation and may not join the Indians until later in April.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Carlos Carrasco was on top of his game Friday night.
Cleveland's right-hander struck out 11 while pitching scoreless ball into the eighth inning, and the Indians defeated the Miami Marlins 6-2.
"That's what I'm looking for," Carrasco said. "From pitch one to the last pitch, I was aggressive. With every pitch — fastball, slider, curveball, changeup — everything. The whole game."
CLEVELAND (AP) — Coco Crisp is headed back to his first baseball home.
The switch-hitting outfielder is on the verge of returning to the Cleveland Indians, who have agreed in principle to a trade with the Oakland Athletics, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press on Tuesday night. Major League Baseball still must approve the deal, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Martin Perez didn't feel the comforts of home this time.

The AL Central-leading Indians trailed 4-1, but scored twice in both the fifth and sixth to complete a four-game sweep.
The Angels went 0-9 on their road trip and are mired in their worst skid since an 11-game losing streak in 1999.
WASHINGTON (AP) — With injuries and struggles decimating the Cleveland Indians' starting rotation, Josh Tomlin had been a rock.
That hasn't been the case the past two starts when Tomlin has failed to get through the fifth inning. For the second consecutive outing, Tomlin allowed seven earned runs, this time in a 7-4 loss to the Washington Nationals on Wednesday.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Abraham Almonte scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in Cleveland's four-run seventh inning in the Indians' 5-3 comeback victory over the Oakland Athletics on Friday night.
