NEW YORK (AP) — First, critics panned Maroon 5's Super Bowl halftime performance. Then social media folks went full-on snark over Adam Levine's throw pillow-like tank top design. Then he peeled off the busy brown shirt and the snark turned to outrage over his exposed nipples.
There are a number of words you could use to describe Maroon 5's halftime show performance: Empty. Boring. Basic. Sleepy. Skippable. Unfulfilling. Unnecessary.
And those who came to help save the day didn't do their jobs: If you blinked you would have missed that Travis Scott and Big Boi performed. Even the gospel choir singer was a struggle — clearly they let the wrong one sing lead Sunday.

Maroon 5, "Red Pill Blues" (Interscope/222 Records)
When Adam Levine hits his buzzer and swivels his chair on "The Voice," you know he recognizes talent. So is it any surprise that the Maroon 5 frontman has an excellent ear when he records with his band?
"Red Pill Blues" finds Maroon 5 doing what they do best, writing well-crafted, cleverly produced pop songs that instantly nudge you to the dance floor. Don't even try to fight it. Remember "Animals" or "Moves Like Jagger"? Just submit.
