Sweet or spicy? Super Bowl chilis with regional twists
ATLANTA (AP) — If the Super Bowl was a chili cook-off, it would come down to the sweetness of baked beans representing New England against the spicy punch of jalapenos coming out of Los Angeles.
Cousins, offense off track again as Vikings fall to Bears
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — After Kirk Cousins underthrew Adam Thielen, one of 10 failures to move the chains out of 11 third-down plays for Minnesota, two of the team's best players engaged in an animated and heated discussion on the sideline as the Vikings frustratingly settled for a field goal right before halftime.
A duo that connected on 113 passes for 1,373 yards and nine touchdowns in its first year together was struggling, again, in a late-season game to get in sync.
With spot in playoffs still unsecure, Vikings ride Rudolph
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The passing attack for Minnesota has largely been fueled this season by Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs, who have flourished into one of the NFL's most productive and versatile wide receiver tandems.
Kyle Rudolph has again been in mostly a supporting role, often asked to assist a vulnerable offensive line with blocking and rarely the first option while running a route from his tight end spot with more than half of the throws made by Kirk Cousins sent to either Thielen or Diggs.
Vikings offense continues to be missing in loss to Seattle
SEATTLE (AP) — While the Minnesota Vikings are still fully in control of their path to the postseason, Adam Thielen knows it's starting to slip away.
Ten points last week in New England. Seven points on Monday night in an ugly 21-7 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. It's not good enough. The Vikings know it, and the frustration is beginning to build.
Too much talk, too few catches for Vikings receiver Thielen
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Vikings receiver Adam Thielen was so revved up about some potential Patriots skullduggery during the fourth quarter that an official had to hold him back from New England coach Bill Belichick on the sideline.
Vikings enter tough stretch with fuel from victory over Pack
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have a lot of work left just to make the playoffs before the championship chase even comes back into the conversation.
The Vikings face daunting back-to-back road games against New England and Seattle, with the every-four-years matchup against five-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady and the Patriots up this Sunday afternoon and a Monday night meeting with the surging Seahawks in their deafening stadium on deck for Dec. 10.
Cousins, Vikings pass by Packers 24-17
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Once Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings took the lead on Green Bay, they played with a fierce refusal to let it go.
They held onto the ball with the same determination.
Thielen, Diggs have helped Vikings stay on track
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Thanks to Adam Thielen, Minnesota's record book has already needed several revisions this year.
Just past the midpoint of the schedule for the Vikings, Thielen leads the NFL in receptions (78) at a pace that would fall four short of the all-time single-season mark (143). He leads the league with 947 yards. Kirk Cousins, the new prize quarterback with the annual $28 million salary cap hit, without prompting recently called Thielen the best player on this standout-laden team.
Adam Thielen on pace to challenge receiving records
Adam Thielen is doing things even Hall of Famers Cris Carter and Randy Moss didn't accomplish in Minnesota.
The former undrafted wide receiver from NCAA Division II Minnesota State is the first player in NFL history with at least 100 yards receiving in eight straight games to start the season. Calvin Johnson also had an eight-game streak in 2012.
Minnesota mistakes: Thielen, Diggs cause costly turnovers

Jets’ secondary will be down a few key players vs. Vikings
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets' secondary will be short-handed against Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings.
Cornerback Buster Skrine and safety Marcus Maye are out for the game Sunday, and cornerback Trumaine Johnson is doubtful to play.
Skrine has a concussion that has caused him to miss most of the last two games. Maye is dealing with a broken right thumb. Meanwhile, Johnson — the Jets' top free-agent signing — will likely miss his third straight game with a quadriceps injury.
Thielen it: Vikings star on record-setting receiving pace
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — Last week during team drills with the Minnesota Vikings, Adam Thielen stretched out his body and dived to try to catch an off-target pass.
Thielen immediately questioned aloud the wisdom of his decision to risk pain when ultimately the completion didn't matter. Thielen, though, couldn't resist. There's hardly a ball in the air he doesn't believe he can grab, and this is anything but blind faith.

With ‘innate’ accuracy, Cousins delivering for Vikings
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — As Kirk Cousins backpedaled in the pocket with Minnesota on the move late in the first half last week, Adam Thielen broke for the back corner of the end zone.
Cousins had to make an off-balance throw to beat a fast-approaching Michael Bennett, and Thielen had little room left in bounds to secure the catch with two Philadelphia defenders a step behind him.

EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have secured yet another core player with a long-term contract, signing wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a five-year extension and moving the star of the "Minneapolis Miracle" pass into the NFL's top 10 highest-paid players at his position.
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — More than four months have passed for Stefon Diggs since his yes-that-really-happened touchdown reception for Minnesota on the desperate last play from scrimmage gave the Vikings a postseason victory for the ages over New Orleans.
He still hears about the play a couple of times per week.
As nice as the accolades can be, they won't win the Vikings any games this year.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen was in Rochester on Sunday night to tell the inspirational tale of his rise from a near college football afterthought to becoming a Pro Bowler in the NFL.
Kirk Cousins and the Vikings, officially, begin Monday.
Broached with the topic of Super Bowl expectations in his introductory news conference a month ago, Cousins insisted he could only look a month ahead. But the work had unofficially began by reaching out to teammates. He was allowed to seek out receivers Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen for workouts, but not until Monday can he and his teammates convene with coaches in the Vikings facility.
Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Adam Thielen will be the guest speaker at the upcoming Fellowship of Christian Athletes “Night of Champions” fundraising dinner.
The event will be held on April 22 at the Rochester International Event Center.
Individual tickets for the event are $75, and table sponsorships also are available.
The event will begin at 4 p.m. with a social hour and silent auction. A dinner, live auction and program featuring Thielen will run from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
Vikings sign Kendall Wright, loading up the receiver corps led by Adam Thielen, Stefon Diggs
The Vikings continued to adorn their offense with weapons for new quarterback Kirk Cousins on Friday, signing former Bears wideout Kendall Wright after his free agent visit began on Thursday.
Wright figures to join the team as a slot receiver who can pair with Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs in the Vikings’ top three-receiver set. He caught 59 passes a year ago with the Bears, playing mostly in the slot, and had his best season in 2013 with the Titans, when he caught 94 passes for 1,079 yards.
Vikings sign Kendall Wright, who led Bears in receiving
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have signed wide receiver Kendall Wright, who led the Chicago Bears in receptions and yards last season.
The Vikings announced the addition Friday, putting Wright in the mix behind standouts Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs. Laquon Treadwell, the team's first-round draft pick in 2016, is the only other wide receiver on the roster with significant NFL playing time on his resume. Treadwell had 20 catches for 200 yards in 2017.
As the Vikings draw closer to April 16, when they can officially welcome Kirk Cousins into their new practice facility for the start of offseason workouts, they continue to explore the possibility of putting more talent around their new quarterback.

Detroit Lakes, Minn. Chris Byron knew the history. He had been let down before.
Im nervous as hell. Nervous as hell, he said before watching the Vikings game in Detroit Lakes, Adam Thielens hometown.
He had good reason to be.
Wearing matching No. 19 Thielen jerseys, Byron and his wife, Julie, sipped their beers and watched a game that would bring every Vikings fans worst fears to vivid life on the barroom TV screens.
2 Vikings starters questionable for Sunday’s game
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings starters WR Adam Thielen (lower back) and S Andrew Sendejo (concussion) are both listed as questionable for Sunday's NFC championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
MANKATO, Minnesota | Minnesota Viking Adam Thielen does the almost unimaginable on Sunday: A former NCAA Division II wide receiver from Minnesota State University, Mankato, an undrafted rookie who climbed from practice squad to active roster to special teams to starting wide receiver to all-pro, plays for a berth in Super Bowl LII, a Super Bowl at U.S. Bank Stadium, the Vikings' home field.
When the Vikings have the ball: The Eagles’ antennae will be up for “Seven Heaven,” the play call that gave us the Case Keenum-to-Stefon Diggs walk-off touchdown to change Minnesota’s postseason misfortunes.
Sendejo limited in practice after concussion vs Saints
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings safety Andrew Sendejo is working his way back from a concussion that forced him out of the previous game.
Sendejo took part in a limited portion of practice Thursday for the second straight day, after a hit to the head from New Orleans wide receiver Michael Thomas knocked him to the turf and out of the game. The Vikings beat the Saints to advance to the NFC championship game at Philadelphia.
Matchups for the NFC championship game Sunday between the Minnesota Vikings and Philadelphia Eagles:
When the Vikings (14-3) have the ball
Watch out for Stefon Diggs (14) on a desperation pass!
Seriously, Vikings receivers are more dangerous than given credit for. Indeed, that's also true for Philadelphia's wideouts.
Vikings deep in playoffs, thanks in part to diligent Diggs
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — The path for Stefon Diggs to last-play touchdown fame and sudden Minnesota savior didn't start with such brilliance.
Diggs has only arrived at this stage of his life and his career, a Vikings standout on the verge of a Super Bowl, with an unrelenting diligence and a dose of humility.
For all the natural talent of a consensus five-star recruit coming out of high school, he's sure had to work hard to get here.
Five extra points in Vikings’ win over Saints: Adam Thielen blocks like a champ, Everson Griffen trumps Cameron Jordan
1. Great block, greater catch
Unbelievable, but in a good way this time, Minnesota Vikings fans say after wild ride
Amid the yelling, hugging, high-fiving and kissing of strangers, Minnesota Vikings fans had a singular word for the outcome of the game Sunday night: Unbelievable.
In a good way, for once, not the usual head-hanging, I-can’t-believe-this-happened-again way.
“We thought we were done; it was another loss,” Barry Vulcan of Lino Lakes said, shaking his head, wearing a No. 19 Adam Thielen jersey and still holding a beer on the concourse with his friend Bob Faulkner of Hugo.
There are moments, in Adam Thielens dizzying climb from overlooked prospect to practice squad player to special teams standout to Pro Bowler, that the Vikings wide receiver will allow himself to peer over the edge of the mountain and think back to how easy it could have been for none of this to happen.
The case for Keenum: Vikings QB keeps on disproving doubters
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — When Minnesota's offense huddled for the first time that mid-September afternoon in Pittsburgh, Case Keenum's energy and confidence quickly filled the circle.

How the Vikings’ entire season changed fortunes against the Chicago Bears in October
As the Vikings prepared for the Chicago Bears, there was a relaxed confidence around Winter Park this week — the kind that typically follows a team that knows what it wants and how to go get it.
The Vikings can clinch a first-round bye with a win at U.S. Bank Stadium, and the formula they’ll use to pursue their 13th victory of the season is the one they’ve honed on their way to 10 wins in their last 11 games.
Help wanted: Vikings seeking experienced long snapper after Kevin McDermott injury
The Vikings are searching for a temporary long snapper after Kevin McDermott suffered a dislocated left shoulder in Saturday night’s 16-0 victory in Green Bay, according to McDermott.
McDermott was injured on a punt just before halftime, after officials mistakenly moved the chains on an Adam Thielen catch that wasn’t a first down. Quarterback Case Keenum’s incompletion, thought by the Vikings to be on first down, was on third-and-1, which led to the punt.
Packers’ pass interference jumpstarted too-cute Vikings
GREEN BAY, Wis. Pat Shurmur, the Vikings red-hot offensive coordinator, was being too cute with his calls early on in Saturdays game against an overmatched and undermanned Packers team that hadnt been a nine-point home underdog in nearly 30 years.
And it wouldnt matter one iota. Vikings 16, Packers 0. First shutout since 1993. First Vikings shutout of the Packers since 1971.
That, said receiver Adam Thielen, was a great win.
Good, yes. Gritty, for sure. But great might be stretching it.
