GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — Davaris McGowens scored 13 points and Aaren Edmead added 10 to help North Carolina A&T beat Coppin State 60-47 on Monday night.
Devante Boykins hit a 3-pointer and Edmead added a layup and a 3 during a 10-3 spurt to open the second half that gave NC A&T (10-8, 3-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) a 37-24 lead. Kameron Langley stole it and fed McGowens for a layup to cap the run and the Aggies led by double figures the rest of the way.
ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Mike Laster scored 18 points on 8-of-12 shooting and Doug Taylor helped Ohio dominate the boards with 10 rebounds in an 80-37 victory over winless Coppin State on Friday night.
Kevin Mickle added 15 points and five rebounds, James Gollon scored 11 with eight boards and Teyvion Kirk finished with nine points, eight rebounds and two steals for Ohio (4-3).
CLEVELAND (AP) — Kenny Carpenter scored 24 of his career-high 26 points in the first half, making six 3-pointers, and Cleveland State picked up its first victory this season, beating Coppin State 80-56 on Friday night in the Vikings' home opener.
Carpenter, a senior, scored 11 points in a 13-5 run to start the game and the Vikings rode his big half to a 41-24 lead.
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Kentrell Barkley and Shawn Williams each scored 14 points as East Carolina earned its 16th consecutive win in its home opener Sunday, dispatching Coppin State 76-50.
Barkley, a returning starter, hit 5 of 7 from the field and 4-for-4 from the line also grabbed seven rebounds for the Pirates. Williams, in his first game after redshirting, came off the bench to hit 4 of 9 shots from the field, including 2 of 5 from deep.
