BERMILLO DE SAYAGO, Spain (AP) — Italian rider Elia Viviani won his second Spanish Vuelta stage on Tuesday, while Simon Yates retained the leader's red jersey despite a punctured tire.
Viviani, who also won the third stage, outsprinted Peter Sagan in the final meters to comfortably win the 177-kilometer (110-mile) flat 10th stage from Salamanca to Bermillo de Sayago.
Geraint Thomas wins Criterium du Dauphine
SAINT-GERVAIS, France (AP) — Team Sky rider Geraint Thomas won the Criterium du Dauphine on Sunday after Adam Yates claimed the final stage of the warmup race for the Tour de France.
Yates, who attacked several times in the stage finale, managed to overtake Dani Navarro on the last curve of the final climb to Saint-Gervais, in the French Alps, just about 50 meters from the finish line.
Navarro finished second, four seconds back, with Romain Bardet completing the podium, nine seconds off the pace.
FILOTTRANO, Italy (AP) — Adam Yates soloed to victory in the fifth stage of the Tirreno-Adriatico race on Sunday, while Michal Kwiatkowski finished third to take the overall lead with just two stages remaining.
Yates attacked with about four kilometers remaining of the hilly 178-kilometer (110-mile) route from Castelraimondo to Michele Scarponi's hometown of Filottrano — and no one could catch him.
The British rider crossed the line seven seconds ahead of Peter Sagan and Kwiatkowski.
TREVI, Italy (AP) — Geraint Thomas moved into the overall lead at the Tirreno-Adriatico on Friday, and Primoz Roglic rode to an uphill victory at the end of the third stage.
Roglic was involved in a crash on Thursday, but the Slovenian rider attacked with just over 1 kilometer remaining of the 239-kilometer (149-mile) route from Follonica to Trevi.
Adam Yates crossed the line three seconds behind Roglic, and Tiesj Benoot was a further three seconds behind in third.
Miguel Angel Lopez wins 15th Vuelta stage, Froome keeps lead
ALTO HOYA DE LA MORA, Spain (AP) — Colombian rider Miguel Angel Lopez won the mountainous 15th stage of the Spanish Vuelta on Sunday, while Tour de France winner Chris Froome tacked a few seconds onto his overall lead.
A late surge by Froome over the final meters of the punishing ride over two category one and a final special-category ascent allowed him to grow the gap over Vincenzo Nibali.
