PARIS (AP) — In a battle of different generations, home favorite Richard Gasquet beat Canadian teenager Denis Shapovalov in straight sets to reach the second round of the Paris Masters, where he will face American defending champion Jack Sock.
The 32-year-old Gasquet was 3-0 down in the opening set but rallied to win 6-4, 7-6 (3) on Monday.

Wawrinka withdraws from Swiss Indoors as Cilic wins opener
BASEL, Switzerland (AP) — Three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka has ended his season after withdrawing from the Swiss Indoors with a back injury.
Wawrinka says there is "disappointment and sadness" in taking a decision for his long-term plans.
The 33-year-old Swiss, who was due to play Wednesday against Adrian Mannarino, is now ranked 68th after battling knee injuries for more than a year.
Third-seeded Marin Cilic moved into the second round by beating Denis Shapovalov 6-4, 6-2.
Khachanov beats Mannarino in 55 minutes to win Kremlin Cup
MOSCOW (AP) — Karen Khachanov breezed past Adrian Mannarino 6-2, 6-2 to win his third career ATP title at the Kremlin Cup on Sunday.
Khachanov's powerful serve dictated the match, as it has done all tournament. He fired in six aces and wrapped up the win in 55 minutes.
The 22-year-old Russian was only broken once all week and faced a single break point against Mannarino, which he saved.
Nishikori, Raonic advance to 2nd round at Japan Open
TOKYO (AP) — Two-time champion Kei Nishikori and Milos Raonic both advanced to the second round of the Japan Open with straight-set victories on Monday.
The third-seeded Nishikori beat Japanese wild-card entry Yuichi Sugita 6-4, 6-1, while the sixth-seeded Raonic defeated Adrian Mannarino 6-3, 6-4.
Mannarino was the runner-up last year, losing the final to David Goffin.
Chung, Mannarino both upset at Chengdu Open
CHENDU, China (AP) — Second-seeded Hyeon Chung and fourth-seeded Adrian Mannarino both lost Wednesday at the Chengdu Open.
Canadian lucky loser Felix Auger-Aliassime advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Chung 7-6 (2), 5-7, 6-4, while Malek Jaziri upset Mannarino 6-3, 7-6 (5).
Auger-Aliassime saved five of eight break points in the match.
Paire in France team for Davis Cup semifinals against Spain
PARIS (AP) — Benoit Paire received his first Davis Cup call-up on Tuesday and will be part of the France team that takes on Spain in the semifinals.
In the absence of Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gael Monfils, who are out injured, the 56th-ranked Paire was selected by France captain Yannick Noah.
Noah said he received guarantees from the quick-tempered Paire, a talented player known for smashing his rackets, that he was "motivated" and committed to the team.

ANTALYA, Turkey (AP) — Damir Dzumbur won his third ATP title at the Antalya Open when he beat Adrian Mannarino of France 6-1, 1-6, 6-1 in the final on Saturday.
Dzumhur won his previous two last year in Russia, becoming the first player from Bosnia and Herzegovina to win an ATP singles title.
"I didn't expect this one, especially because it is the (grass) surface I play (only) one or two tournaments each year," he said. "From next year, I should play much more."

Pouille to lead France against Italy in Davis Cup
PARIS (AP) — Lucas Pouille will lead defending champion France against Italy in the Davis Cup quarterfinals.
The 10th-ranked Pouille has been selected by France captain Yannick Noah alongside Adrian Mannarino and Jeremy Chardy. Doubles specialists Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut have also been called up.
Pouille wrapped up France's 10th Davis Cup title last year by winning the decisive point against Belgium in the final.
Querrey, Anderson advance to New York Open final
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Sam Querrey had everything figured out Saturday except his math.
The No. 2 seed lost track of the score and didn't realize he had closed out the match when he beat fourth-seeded Adrian Mannarino 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-3 in the semifinals of the New York Open.

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Third-seeded John Isner was upset by Radu Albot of Moldova 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-3 on Wednesday night in the second round of the New York Open.
Isner hit 28 aces to Albot's one, but the 91st-ranked Albot came up with a third-set break and held on from there to knock off the American in a little more than 2 hours.
Isner, who had a first-round bye, has dropped his openers in all three tournaments he has played this season, including the Australian Open.
Harrison wins opening match at New York Open
UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) — Sixth-seeded Ryan Harrison, the last champion of the Memphis Open, beat fellow American Donald Young 6-3, 7-6 (4) on Monday in his first-round match in the New York Open.

The top-seeded Swiss saved two break points when trailing 3-2 in the decisive set, including with a backhand half-volley winner from the baseline.

PARIS (AP) — Adrian Mannarino has replaced the injured Gael Monfils in the France team that will face Serbia in the Davis Cup semifinals.
Monfils, who was named as a reserve in the squad by captain Yannick Noah, withdrew with a right knee injury, the French tennis federation said Friday.
